One two-month cruise through the Australian Coast is being halted days after the tragic passing of an older lady who was stranded by the ship on a distant coastal location.

The passenger had been hiking on the remote island with fellow passengers from the cruise ship, but parted ways from the excursion for a pause. The vessel sailed away leaving her and came back after some time after the crew became aware the woman was unaccounted for.

A large-scale hunt found her body the following day.

Officials are investigating the tragedy, together with law enforcement and the medical examiner.

Chief Executive of the cruise operator said that travelers and staff on the Coral Adventurer were informed that the rest of the journey had been terminated due to the "unfortunate death and previous mechanical issues".

Through an announcement, he further stated that passengers would be given a full refund, and said the operator was working "to organize the return journeys of the passengers via private aircraft".

Authorities also released an revised communication, and said they had "delivered a notice to the Captain" preventing any additional guests from boarding the ship.

The official said that they would inspect the vessel in Cairns upon its return.

The liner first departed the coastal city on October 24th, and was merely two days into the voyage at the time of the senior passenger's passing. Lizard Island was the first stop on the journey.

Travelers on the vessel - who usually pay tens of thousands of money to participate in the expedition - were ferried there for a shore visit with the possibility of trekking or underwater exploration.

The daughter of the deceased woman said that her family was "shocked and grieved that the liner left the location after an organised tour without my mother".

Via her announcement, she characterized her mother as an "active 80-year-old" who was a affiliate of a bushwalking club.

"From the little details we have been provided, it seems that there was a failure of responsibility and common sense," she mentioned.

She added that she desired the investigation would be able to determine what "the company should have undertaken that might have saved Mum's being".
